Two years of construction and renovation came to fruition Wednesday morning when the ribbon was cut on the newly-expanded and renovated Sheldon Community High School. A large contingent of faculty, staff, Sheldon dignitaries and citizens were on hand to celebrate what Superintendent Cory Myer called a “wonderful, beautiful facility.”
“It’s absolutely a wonderful, beautiful space. Just a great learning environment for our students for our staff, and something we’re really excited just to showcase to the whole community.”
He says that the footprint of the original building was greatly increased through this project.
“We were at about 95,000 square feet we added another 25,000 square feet. And we touched every floor, wall, ceiling, every space in the building has been touched in one way or another.”
Myer gave a special thank you to the custodial staff who worked through the construction mess to get the building sparkling in time for the 2026-27 school year, to the teachers and students for the challenges they’ve faced during the construction period, and to the community at large.
“There’s so many people to thank and really the most important group of all are just our entire school community, a huge financial investment. I think it just shows how much we care about education, we value education in the Sheldon Community School District and I just feel very blessed to be a part of it.”
Sheldon Development Director Tania Herrera was on hand, and she says she’s impressed with the finished school.
“It is wonderful to see all of the new improvements and of course the new additions as well. Education is a pillar for any community and seeing the opportunities that will be offered to these students is wonderful to see.”
Sheldon Mayor Greg Geels called the completed renovation & expansion a “wonderful addition to Sheldon.”
“Today is a great day. It’s one we’ve all been waiting for for a long time. When you hear about concept and then it comes to reality, it’s exciting. Big turnout today and the place is absolutely beautiful. I’m glad I got to be here to participate in the ribbon cutting and see all the staff and whatnot. And, uh, Corey mentioned all the challenges they went through in classroom re moving around classroom to classroom and having people working in their space. But in the end, it’s all worth it. It’s a wonderful addition to Sheldon High.”
Following Wednesday morning’s Ribbon Cutting, the guests were invited to tour the impressive facility.
