(KTIV) — Young musicians from across the state are being invited to showcase their talents as registration is now open for the 2026 Iowa Rocks Talent Contest.
The annual competition, presented by the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association, is open to Iowa musicians who are 21 years old or younger and reside in the state.
Applications Due July 31
Contest organizers began accepting applications on June 15. Interested musicians must complete an online application and submit two YouTube video links through the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Association’s website.
All applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, July 31.
Competition Features Two Divisions
The contest includes two separate categories:
•Individual Musician Division
•Band Division for groups consisting of two or more members
Association President Ted Poulsen says the organization is excited to continue providing opportunities for young musicians across Iowa.
“This is a statewide competition for Iowa’s young musicians to showcase the music they love and to compete for a grand prize of recording time at a major Iowa recording studio,” Poulsen said.
Virtual Preliminary Round
The first round of competition will be conducted virtually through video submissions on the association’s website. A panel of judges will then select finalists to advance to the live championship event.
The finals are scheduled for Saturday, September 5, at the Pearson Lakes Art Center.
Prize Package Worth $5,000
Winners of the competition will receive a prize package valued at approximately $5,000, including:
•Professional studio recording time
•Performance opportunities
•The chance to open for the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame Induction Concert
The winning acts will perform at the induction concert on Sunday, September 6, at the Roof Garden Ballroom.
