October is National Physical Therapy Month, and that was the focus of the latest HealthCare Happenings program — a partnership between Sioux County Radio and Sioux Center Health.
Leah DeStigter, a physical therapist at Sioux Center Health’s Hull location, joined the program to share the many reasons people may seek therapy.
DeStigter says they see a wide range of conditions, including pediatrics, Parkinson’s disease, neurological and vestibular disorders, women’s health, and more. She also explained her areas of specialization and what “vestibular” therapy means.
According to Medscape, dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance affect roughly 15 to 20 percent of adults each year in large population studies. DeStigter adds that most insurance providers cover physical therapy services.
She notes that whether a referral is required often depends on the individual’s insurance policy.
