Orange City to Hold Public Hearing on 7th Street Reconstruction Project

The City of Orange City will hold a public hearing on Monday, February 2nd, regarding plans for a major reconstruction and resurfacing project along 7th Street.

The public hearing is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Orange City Hall and will focus on the project’s plans, specifications, contract documents, and estimated costs. The project covers a stretch of 7th Street from Ironwood Avenue to Frankfort Avenue on the north side of town.

According to Orange City City Administrator Matt Van Schouwen, the project addresses a corridor that has needed attention for years.

He says the project will be a mix of reconstruction and resurfacing.

The public notice says the project includes about 3,350 feet of roadway reconstruction and 3,275 feet of resurfacing, along with items such as excavation, pavement work, storm sewer improvements, curb and gutter, and sidewalk construction.

Van Schouwen estimates the total cost at around two million dollars, funded through a combination of federal, city, and county dollars.

Van Schouwen says the public hearing is a standard part of the process for major capital projects and is required before the city proceeds with bids and construction. The public notice notes that any interested person may appear and file objections to the project or its cost.
