The City of Orange City is reminding families that flowers and decorations at West Lawn Cemetery must be removed by June 15 as part of the cemetery’s annual maintenance policy.

City officials say the policy helps allow for efficient mowing and upkeep throughout the cemetery grounds. The requirement applies to any flowers, decorations, or other items that are not permanently attached to a gravestone or base.

According to the city, flowers and decorations may be placed at grave sites each year between May 20 and June 15.

City officials thanked residents for their understanding and cooperation as crews work to maintain the cemetery throughout the summer season.

Earlier this year, the City of Orange City also launched new digital tools for West Lawn Cemetery designed to improve public access to burial records and cemetery information.

The updated cemetery software allows residents to search burial records from home, view section and plot information, and locate gravesites using an interactive online map. Residents can also explore available cemetery lots online and submit requests for lot purchases through the system.

In April, the city announced that the mobile app portion of the cemetery software became available for both iPhone and Android devices. Users can find the app by searching “West Lawn Cemetery” in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. A QR code linking to the system is also available on the city’s website.

City officials say the digital upgrades are intended to improve access to cemetery information and make it easier for visitors and families to navigate the cemetery grounds.
