Orange City House Fire Claims Two Lives

An Orange City couple has died as the result of a house fire on Friday morning.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s office, 79-year-old Arlan Egdorf and 82-year-old Linda Egdorf were found to have died from their injuries by firefighters at 604 Albany Avenue NE following a 9-1-1 call to Sioux County Communications at 6:49 a.m. Friday reporting smoke coming from the residence. The occupants were officially pronounced deceased by the Sioux County Medical Examiner.

The Orange City Fire Department and Orange City Ambulance were first on the scene and found the single-family dwelling filled with smoke. Aid was requested and Fire Departments from Alton, Hospers, Granville, Sioux Center, and Le Mars, the Orange City Police Department and Sioux County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance.

The house was declared a total loss with damage in excess of $100,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Orange City Fire Chief and Iowa State Fire Marshal.
