Orange City’s Dollar Fresh is becoming a full-service Hy-Vee supermarket. Under lifelong resident and manager Angela Halstad, the expanded store will offer a bakery, butcher counter, and new health items.
Dollar Fresh to Hy-Vee
The location first opened as a Dollar Fresh five years ago to deliver low-price and fresh quality goods. However, growing customer demand prompted the transition to bring more service departments. Speaking on a Daily Grind episode last week, Halstad lays out the strategy behind the original concept and the upcoming changes.
“So the initial plan with the dollar was to have that low price impact, fresh quality. Um, but we didn’t have some of the service, uh, pieces like the bakery and the meat service that kind of cut out some of the labor there. But we wanted to just make sure that we were there for the lowest prices in town and to get what people needed and wanted.”
Customer satisfaction and dedication to quality remain at the heart of the store’s mission. She notes the team strives to be a strong pillar in the community.
“We want to make sure that we provide the best quality products for our customer. And like I said earlier, that’s just going back to the basics. As a Hy-Vee, we want to have the best service, best products, lowest prices. We want to be a pillar in our community. So we we just want to strive for that.”
Grand Opening
The grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony is Tomorrow (Tuesday). Customers can look forward to a fully stocked bakery alongside a custom meat counter where exact cuts are prepared.
To celebrate with local families, Hy-Vee is hosting a community event on Saturday, October 10th. The celebration will feature a bouncy house, face painting, balloon art by local artist Ditzy the Twister, and grilled food provided by a vendor from Le Mars.
