Orange City Area Health System CEO Marty Guthmiller Announces Retirement

Orange City Area Health System CEO Marty Guthmiller will retire later this year, bringing to a close more than three decades of leadership that helped transform the organization into a regional healthcare leader.

Hospital officials announced Guthmiller’s retirement will take effect August 1, 2026. He has served the organization since 1994, overseeing significant growth in facilities, services, and workforce across northwest Iowa.

During his tenure, Orange City Area Health System expanded its footprint with major projects including the development of a new health campus, Mill Creek Family Practice in Paullina, Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community, Prairie Ridge Care Center, and the Kanaal Huis 55-plus living community. The health system also expanded medical services and strengthened its role as a healthcare hub for the region.

Guthmiller says the organization’s culture remains his proudest accomplishment.

“Stepping away from this position will be bittersweet,” Guthmiller said. “Serving Orange City Area Health System, its employees and volunteers, and communities throughout Northwest Iowa has been the greatest professional privilege. I am grateful for the trust, support, and partnership my colleagues, the Board, and our patients and residents have shown me.”

Health system leaders say Guthmiller helped shape a culture centered on respect and its guiding principle to “Do Right,” while building strong relationships among staff, leadership, and the Board of Trustees.

A formal search for the organization’s next CEO will begin soon. Guthmiller will remain actively involved through the transition to ensure continuity in leadership and operations.
