One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash late Thursday morning (April 2nd) just north of Sioux Center.
According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened around 11:15 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 75 and 370th Street, about one mile north of Sioux Center.
Authorities say 36-year-old Katy Van Veldhuizen of Boyden was driving a 2016 Jeep Renegade westbound on 370th Street and had stopped at a stop sign. At the same time, 20-year-old Kody Eisma of Hawarden was traveling northbound on Highway 75 in a 2025 Peterbilt semi-truck pulling a Wilson trailer.
Investigators say Van Veldhuizen entered the intersection while attempting to turn left onto Highway 75 and was struck by the northbound semi.
Van Veldhuizen was transported by Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health with injuries. Her condition has not been released.
Damage to the Jeep was estimated at $10,000, while the semi sustained approximately $25,000 in damage.
Van Veldhuizen was cited for failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sioux Center Police Department, Sioux Center Fire Department, and Sioux Center Ambulance.
