Officials Gather for “Donuts and Disasters”

Emergency Managers from across Northwest Iowa joined local officials and state legislators in Cherokee on September 18th for “Donuts and Disasters,” a community event highlighting the vital role of Emergency Management in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.

Hosted at the Cherokee County Emergency Management office, the event provided leaders with an opportunity to connect over coffee and donuts while engaging in serious conversations about disaster recovery efforts, innovative preparedness strategies, and funding priorities.

According to a press release from the Iowa Emergency Management Association District 3, discussions focused on legislative efforts impacting county-level Emergency Management, the need for strong local and state collaboration, and the importance of continued investment in disaster preparedness and recovery resources.

Organizers said the gathering underscored the collaborative spirit that defines Northwest Iowa. By bringing together Emergency Managers, local officials, and state legislators in a casual setting, the event reinforced the importance of working together to safeguard communities before, during, and after disasters.
