Oath of Office Administered in Sioux Center

The Sioux Center city council, at a regular meeting Monday night administered the oath of office to Mayor-elect, Dale Vander Berg.  Vander Berg just completed his first term as city councilman, he decided to run for mayor after Mayor Dave Krahling announced he would not seek another term.  The oath of office was also administered to new city councilman Cory Gotto who fills Vander Berg’s vacated seat.  Both Gotto and Vanden Berg will assume their duties January 2. 

In other council news, Sioux Center Police Chief Josh Koedam informed the council of the hiring of two sergeants from within the department.  Officers Kelli Willett and Jack Brundell have been promoted to the rank of sergeant to assist with the increased administrative duties of an increasingly busy department.

Council also approved entering into a planning services agreement with Confluence to review and revise the City’s Comprehensive Plan by developing a new Future Land Use Plan that will include an updated future land use map, land use definition, and land use to zoning compatibility matrix.  It is recommended the city update these plans every ten years.

Council also accepted the completion of four projects, and final payment of three.  The Highland Hills development, the 1st Ave. & 13th St. SW project, the 7th St. NE resurfacing, and the Biotech Park 4th Ave. extension.

Before adjourning, Mayor-elect Dale Vander Berg expressed gratitude to Mayor Dave Krahling for his years of service and dedication to the community as city councilman and Mayor.
