Northwestern College was recently named in the top adoption-friendly workplaces by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The college was placed 5th in education workplaces and 24th in medium-sized employers.

“Northwestern College is honored to again be recognized as an adoption-friendly workplace. This recognition underscores our commitment to supporting employees and their families, regardless of how those families come together. Providing generous adoption assistance and paid leave benefits is one way we live out our mission to pursue God’s redeeming work in the world and care for the people he has entrusted to us.”

– Mindy Stichka, Northwestern’s director of human resources

Northwestern offers financial assistance to faculty and staff of up to $2,000 per adoptee and an additional $1,000 for adopting someone with special needs. These funds can be used for adoption-related expenses. Many Northwestern employees who adopt are also eligible for an additional 7-day parental leave on top of the normal 6-weeks given.

The survey is determined by scoring workplaces based on the amount of financial reimbursement and paid leave given to families who adopt. Education workplaces that scored higher than Northwestern are Baylor University, University of Notre Dame, University of Dayton, and Emory University.
