Northwestern College named Best-in-Class Employer

Northwestern College has been recognized as a best-in-class employer by Gallagher as part of the firm’s 2025 U.S. Benefits Strategy and Benchmarking Survey.

The designation recognizes organizations that demonstrate excellence in employee benefits strategy, workplace well-being, and cost management. Gallagher’s evaluation is based on a nationwide benchmarking analysis of employers, focusing on how organizations utilize benefits and people strategies to achieve measurable outcomes, including improved employee well-being and sustainable cost structures.

According to Gallagher, best-in-class employers prioritize employee health, financial confidence, and career development while maintaining long-term affordability.

Kent Wiersema, Northwestern’s vice president for finance and operations, says supporting and retaining employees is a key part of the college’s strategic planning efforts.

“While external recognition is not our primary goal, it is both humbling and encouraging to see the thoughtful work being done across human resources, benefits, and compensation recognized in this way,” Wiersema said. “Our teams remain committed to supporting our employees and advancing Northwestern’s mission for the benefit of our students and the broader campus community.”

Gallagher evaluated participating organizations on factors including long-term benefits and compensation planning, well-being initiatives, employee turnover, workforce engagement, retirement planning support, and year-over-year health care cost performance. Northwestern’s results placed it among the nation’s top midsize and large employers.

Gallagher is a global insurance brokerage, risk management, and consulting services firm headquartered in Rolling Meadows, Illinois.
