Two northwest Iowa organizations are receiving state funding to strengthen efforts to keep families in their homes.
The Iowa Finance Authority has awarded more than $1.3 million statewide through its new Homelessness Prevention Fund, with a share coming to local groups. Upper Des Moines Opportunity will receive more than $80,000 to serve residents in Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Palo Alto, and Pocahontas counties. Family Crisis Centers will get $65,000 to support communities in Cherokee, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Plymouth, and Sioux counties.
The program is designed to help Iowans at risk of losing housing by providing short-term financial assistance, landlord mediation, housing navigation, and case management. State officials aim to prevent homelessness before it occurs and reduce the need for emergency shelters.
