(KUOO / KTIV) — No injuries were reported after a train collided with a semi Tuesday afternoon near Hartley, cutting the truck’s corn-filled trailer in half.
Authorities say 58-year-old Thomas Martin of Reading, Minnesota, was driving a 1998 Peterbilt southbound on Van Buren Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. The semi reportedly failed to yield at a railroad crossing and collided with an eastbound Canadian Pacific train.
The impact cut the semi’s grain hopper trailer, which was loaded with corn, in half. Martin escaped injury, and the two crew members aboard the train were also uninjured.
Damage to the semi was estimated at $60,000, while the train sustained an estimated $50,000 in damage.
