If you’ve driven past the Osceola County Courthouse in Sibley recently, you’ve likely noticed a large new structure taking shape—the future Osceola County Jail.
Osceola County Sheriff Kevin Wollmuth says even he was surprised by the size of the building.
Construction has progressed quickly in recent weeks, with both interior and exterior walls now in place and the roof completed. Wollmuth says favorable weather has helped crews move efficiently, noting that the prefabricated walls were installed using cranes over about a month.
The project remains on track for an August completion, with interior concrete work expected to begin soon now that the building can be heated.
Wollmuth says the new jail will be a major upgrade from the county’s current facility, which dates back to 1907 and was originally part of a sheriff’s residence.
The new facility will also include a sally port, allowing secure transfers of inmates and direct access for emergency medical vehicles.
