New Details in Sioux Center Crash and Vehicle Fire Near Dordt Rec Center

New details have been released following a Monday morning crash in Sioux Center that resulted in a vehicle fire.

According to a Sioux Center Police Department report, the accident happened shortly before 8:00 a.m. near 7th Street NE, west of 7th Avenue NE, near the Dordt Recreation Center.

The report indicates a vehicle traveling eastbound struck the rear of another vehicle that had slowed to make a left turn.

Authorities say the eastbound vehicle, a 2000 Volkswagen Golf, caught fire following the collision and was ultimately totaled.

Additional information from local officials suggests the fire was likely related to the impact itself, with the force of the crash potentially causing a fuel-related failure. However, due to the extent of the damage, officials say they cannot determine the exact cause of the fire.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the fire had already spread rapidly around the vehicle.

Two individuals were inside the vehicle that caught fire. Both were able to get out safely.

Police say one vehicle involved reported no injuries, while the other driver reported possible minor injuries and was transported by EMS to Sioux Center Health.

The second vehicle involved was a 2018 GMC Sierra pickup.

The crash occurred during daylight hours with dry road conditions at a T-intersection.

Authorities say no citations were issued in connection with the accident. The names of those involved have not been released.
