Nate Huizenga was sworn in on Friday, January 2nd, to serve as interim Sioux County Sheriff, filling the remainder of the term following the retirement of Jamie Van Voorst.
Van Voorst stepped down from the position effective December 31st, midway through his term.
In a statement, Huizenga said he is grateful for the opportunity to serve and remains committed to maintaining the high standard of law-enforcement services Sioux County residents expect. He also emphasized the importance of community engagement, open communication, and collaboration as the Sheriff’s Office moves forward during the leadership transition.
A lifelong Sioux County resident, Huizenga was raised in Orange City and has served with the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office since 2001. His career includes more than a decade as Chief Deputy from 2013 until he was appointed interim sheriff. In addition to his law-enforcement service, Huizenga also served as the Sioux County Emergency Management Coordinator from 2009 through 2025.
Huizenga and his wife, Leslie, live in Orange City and are the parents of three children.
