Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig commented on ag actions in first weeks of Trump Administration, issuing the following statement:
“President Donald Trump hit the ground running with a whirlwind first week back in the White House. I appreciate his initial signs of support for America’s farmers,” said Secretary Naig. “My team is eager to work with the Trump administration on our shared priorities to ensure the vitality of rural communities, including achieving fairness in our trade relationships, protecting our valuable livestock industry, and accelerating the pace of voluntary conservation and water quality efforts.”
Naig also commended Trump’s commitment to biofuels, noting the President’s executive order declaring a national energy emergency and his push for the year-round sale of E15. This move is expected to benefit drivers, create jobs in rural Iowa, and support corn and soybean prices. Trump has also directed federal agencies to review and reduce regulations that hinder the development or use of domestic energy resources, including biofuels.
Additionally, Naig expressed confidence in USDA Secretary nominee Brooke Rollins, who has pledged to support all American agriculture. Naig urged the Senate to confirm Rollins quickly, emphasizing the importance of her leadership in addressing challenges such as the new Farm Bill, agricultural trade deficits, and food security threats. He believes Rollins will be a strong advocate for farmers as the administration navigates these issues.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, led by Secretary Naig, looks forward to collaborating with the USDA under Rollins’ leadership to support the nation’s farmers. The Department works daily with USDA counterparts to ensure animal health, food safety, and consumer protection, while promoting conservation efforts to preserve land and enhance water quality for future generations.
