Motor Vehicle Accident Sends One to Hospital

On Monday, September 1st, at 10:47 am, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Jackson Avenue (county road K-64) and Highway 60; four miles south of Orange City.

Emmagene Martin, age 71, of Cherokee, IA, was driving a 2013 Kia Forte northbound on K64.  Darlene Janssen, age 72, of Sibley, IA was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette southbound on Highway 60. Martin attempted to turn left onto Highway 60 and the two collided in the intersection.

Janssen was transported by the Orange City Ambulance to Orange City Area Health for treatment of her injuries. The Kia sustained approximately $15,000 in damage; the Corvette sustained approximately $26,000 in damage.

Martin was cited for Failure to yield upon entering a Highway. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Orange City Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Orange City Ambulance, Orange City Fire Department and the Alton Fire Department.
