A South Dakota man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to a felony assault charge stemming from a sexual abuse case involving a minor in Sioux County.
Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle announced that 23-year-old Daniel Little Alvarado of Mission Hills, South Dakota, was sentenced on November 10 for Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse, Causing Bodily Injury, a Class D Felony.
The case began in April 2024 when a minor reported being sexually assaulted over several months by Alvarado, a member of the household. Investigators with the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office recovered a prophylactic that was tested by the Iowa DCI Crime Lab, confirming DNA from both the victim and Alvarado.
Originally charged with Third-Degree Sexual Abuse, Alvarado pled guilty this fall to the reduced felony charge. He was sentenced to up to 5 years in the Iowa Department of Corrections. Upon release, he must complete a sex offender evaluation and treatment, register as a sex offender for life, have no contact with the victim for five years, and serve an additional ten-year special sentence under Iowa Code 903B, equivalent to parole supervision.
