One person was taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle collision on Monday afternoon on Highway 75, just south of Sioux Center.
According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 4:53 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 75 and 420th Street. Officers say two northbound vehicles — a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 48-year-old Westfield man, and a 2002 Toyota Avalon driven by a 49-year-old Sioux Center man — were stopped in traffic when a third vehicle approached from behind.
Investigators say a 21-year-old Lyons, Nebraska, man driving a 2009 Toyota Highlander failed to slow down, striking the rear of the Toyota and pushing it forward into the Jeep.
The driver of the Jeep was transported by Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health with minor injuries.
Damage to the vehicles was estimated at $1,000 to the Jeep, $7,000 to the Toyota, and $5,000 to the Highlander. The Nebraska driver was cited for following too closely.
The Sioux Center Fire Department, Sioux Center Ambulance, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.
