Man drowns at rural Le Mars swimming area

Plymouth County authorities have recovered the body of a man who drowned Saturday evening at a rural swimming area.

According to a press release, at 7 p.m., a call of a missing person and possible drowning came to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office.

A 27-year-old man had reportedly been swimming with friends and went missing. The sheriff’s office and Plymouth County Dive Team were dispatched to Kellen’s Ponderosa, a swimming lake south of Le Mars.

The 27-year-old’s body was recovered by authorities and a medical exam ruled the cause of death as drowning.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time. The Le Mars Police Department, Le Mars Fire and Rescue, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Sioux County Dive Team assisted at the scene.
