Normally the term “golden spike” refers to the completion of a project, but for the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System, it marks the final section of pipe for the 310 miles of transmission pipeline for the Base System.
The final section of 12-inch diameter pipe will be covered in a gold wrap with the Lewis & Clark and Bureau of Reclamation logos. Attendees will sign the pipe before it goes in the ground Friday morning. A program will not be held, but a handful of officials will share brief remarks before the contractor puts the pipe in the ground.
A separate ribbon cutting celebration will be planned later for Sibley’s connection to the system in October. Completion of the Base System will not be completed until 2028 when the third and final phase of the treatment plant is expected to be finished.
