Le Mars Named National Finalist for “America’s Favorite Small Town”

Le Mars is getting national recognition — and could soon add another title to its name.

The town of Le Mars has been named a national finalist in the “America’s Favorite Small Towns” competition, a nationwide contest celebrating communities with populations under 250,000.

Finalists were announced Sunday, March 1st, with Le Mars earning a spot in the running.

The contest highlights towns that showcase strong local businesses, deep-rooted traditions, and community pride. In its description of Le Mars, the contest’s website says the community stands out for more than just its well-known ice cream connection.

“With small businesses at its heart, cherished traditions around every corner, and a community that always welcomes you like family, Le Mars isn’t just the sweetest town because of ice cream—it’s the people, pride, and playfulness that make every visit feel like coming home,” the website states.

Community voting for the contest began in November. State winners will be announced on June 1st, with the national winner revealed on June 12th.

The winning town will receive an official “Favorite Small Town in America” badge and will host a Fourth of July celebration as part of the recognition.

Le Mars is the only Iowa town named as a finalist. Other regional finalists include communities in neighboring South Dakota.

A special spring print edition of Parade Magazine titled “Favorite Small Towns in America” will feature the finalists.
