The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says a Le Mars man has died following a motorcycle crash late Friday night northeast of Le Mars.
Authorities have identified the rider as 33-year-old Dakota Acevedo of Le Mars. Deputies say Acevedo died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called at approximately 10:10 p.m. Friday, June 5, for a reported motorcycle accident east of the intersection of Highway 3 and Marble Avenue.
Investigators say witnesses reported the motorcycle was traveling at a very high rate of speed when the rider failed to negotiate a curve, causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway and lose control.
When deputies arrived, witnesses at the scene were performing life-saving measures on Acevedo, who authorities say was unconscious and not breathing.
Deputies, along with members of the Le Mars Fire Department and Le Mars Police Department, continued rescue efforts at the scene. Acevedo was transported to a Le Mars hospital, where he was stabilized before being airlifted to a hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The sheriff’s office says Acevedo later died from his injuries.
Authorities say the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
