Key City and School Board Openings up for Grabs Today

Voters across Northwest Iowa are heading to the polls today to decide city and school board races in Sioux and Lyon counties. Polls are open until 8 p.m.

Here’s a look at the contested races appearing on local ballots:

SIOUX COUNTY – CITY RACES

Boyden: Three candidates for two seats — incumbents Stacie Damstra and Austin Loges, and Wanda Brands.

Granville: Three candidates for two seats — incumbents Chris Hunt and James Wynia, and Chuck Kreber.

Hawarden: Five candidates for three seats — incumbents Patricia Anderson and Robert Klocke, and challengers Trevor Schelling, Jerry Wilson, and Benjamin Bouza.

Ireton: Five candidates for two seats — Jim Lewis, Loren Mosterd, Pat Johnson, Darrell Hoogendoorn, and Nathan Anderson.

Orange City: Eight candidates for two seats — Andrew Bloemendaal, Grace De Boer Brown, Adam Howerzyl, Luke Livingston, Mark Scallon, Tony Vande Brake, Dennis Vander Wel, and Kenton Vore.

No contested city races are on the ballot in Alton, Chatsworth, Hospers, Hull, Matlock, Maurice, Rock Valley, or Sioux Center.

SIOUX COUNTY – SCHOOL BOARD RACES

MOC–Floyd Valley: District 3 seat — Kley De Jong vs. Sarah Jungers.

Sioux Center: Five candidates for three seats — incumbents Jerod Work, Nathan Bullock, and Yeabsira (Yabby) Doornink; challengers Donna Tea and Scott Varilek.

No contested school board races are on the ballot in Boyden-Hull, Rock Valley, West Sioux, or for the Northwest Iowa Community College Board of Trustees.

LYON COUNTY – CITY RACES

Doon: Five candidates for three seats — incumbents Arlys Rozeboom and Les Vander Tuin; challengers Ethan Van Bemmel, Randy Van Engen, and Lindsey Van Bemmel.

Inwood: Five candidates for three seats — incumbents Rick Roozeboom and Mark Timmerman; challengers Greg Meendering, Jordan Halma, and Laurel Reinke.

Larchwood: Seven candidates for two seats — incumbents Shane Reinke and Lauren Steers; challengers Dawn Romero, Terry Viereck, Theodore Underberg, Zachariah Davis, and Austin DeSmet.

Rock Rapids: Three candidates for two seats — incumbent Cody Hoefert, Ranae McCarty, and Dan Aeschilman.

No contested city races are listed in Alvord, George, Lester, or Little Rock.

LYON COUNTY – SCHOOL BOARD RACES

Central Lyon: One contested seat — Craig Wynia vs. Jaselyn Wissink; two other seats are uncontested.

West Lyon: District 5 seat — Ryan Dieters vs. incumbent Alexander Hage; two other seats are uncontested.

Several city and school board positions are also on the ballot in O’Brien and Osceola counties.
