Juvenile Charged Following Weekend Fire in Orange City

Authorities say a weekend house fire in Orange City has been ruled human-caused.

According to the Orange City Police Department, investigators determined a 12-year-old boy was playing with fire and rubbing alcohol in a bedroom when the blaze started. The fire quickly spread after igniting a bed, causing heavy damage to the home.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, but the residence was declared uninhabitable. The juvenile has been charged with Reckless Use of Fire/Explosives/Destructive Devices and referred to Juvenile Court Services.

Multiple agencies responded, including Orange City, Alton, and Sioux Center fire departments, along with the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, Orange City Ambulance, and Sioux County Emergency Management.
