Sioux County Sheriff Nate Huizenga has announced the promotion of Lieutenant Justin De Bruin to the role of Chief Deputy, filling the position vacated when Huizenga took over as sheriff earlier this year.
De Bruin has served with the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office since 2003 and brings 23 years of experience to the role. His career with the department includes time as a jailer, patrol deputy, K9 handler, sergeant, and, most recently, lieutenant.
Huizenga says De Bruin’s long-standing leadership and familiarity with the department made him a natural choice.
Huizenga added that De Bruin has remained grounded in day-to-day law enforcement work, something he values in a leadership role.
For De Bruin, the promotion represents both a professional milestone and a responsibility he does not take lightly.
He says his leadership philosophy centers on service.
De Bruin will assume the chief deputy role immediately. Huizenga noted that additional promotional steps within the department are expected later this spring, pending civil service procedures.
