Ireton Man Injured After Falling out of Moving Bus

An Ireton man was injured after he fell through an unlatched window of a moving bus early Saturday morning.  The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office received the call about 1:14am reporting the incident.

67-year-old James McDonald of Ocheydan was driving an “All 4 Fun” party bus eastbound on Highway 18 just west of Hull when passengers alerted him that someone on the bus leaned against an unlatched window and fell through it.  21-year-old Levi Koopmans of Ireton landed on the roadway as the bus was reportedly travelling at 50mph.

Koopmans was taken to Sioux Center Health and later flown to Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls for treatment of serious injuries.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department, Hull Ambulance and the Hull Fire Department.
