Ten days after a bus crash in Calhoun County claimed the life of an Iowa Lakes Community College baseball player, one student-athlete and the bus driver remain hospitalized.
In an update released Friday, February 20th, Iowa Lakes Community College said one student-athlete “remains hospitalized and continues to receive medical care,” while other team members are continuing their recovery and receiving appropriate support.
The bus driver, 74-year-old Edward Greving of Estherville, also remains hospitalized.
The crash happened on Wednesday, February 11th, shortly after 11 a.m., on Highway 4 near Twin Lakes in Calhoun County. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the bus was traveling southbound when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, and overturned in a ditch. Authorities say the vehicle rolled after the driver overcorrected. No other vehicles were involved.
The team was reportedly traveling to Arkansas for a game at the time of the crash.
The status of Iowa Lakes’ upcoming baseball season has not yet been announced.
