The Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking public input on a planned culvert replacement project along Highway 9, about two miles east of Rock Rapids—or roughly 1.4 miles west of Lyon County Road K60.
According to the Iowa DOT’s District 3 office in Sioux City, construction is expected to begin in late spring 2027 and wrap up later that year. The project will require a full closure of that stretch of Highway 9, with traffic detoured during construction. The proposed detour for westbound drivers would take K60 south, A34 west to Highway 75, and then north back into Rock Rapids to reconnect with Highway 9.
Residents can learn more about the project and submit comments online. A name and email address are required to participate.
