Intersection Changes on Hwy 75

Beginning Tuesday, September 2, drivers in Sioux Center will see a shift in traffic patterns as part of the ongoing Highway 75 improvement project. City officials announced that two intersections will reopen to east-west traffic, while one key downtown crossing will temporarily close.

The 3rd Street North intersection—home to the downtown traffic signal—will close to all traffic starting Tuesday. Crews are set to begin deep underground utility work in that area, marking a major step forward in the infrastructure overhaul.

Meanwhile, the 2nd Street North intersection near The Fruited Plain and Coop Gas will reopen to allow east-west traffic. The 4th Street South intersection near Bethel Church will also open for east-west travel, helping ease local navigation while construction continues.

Looking ahead to winter, plans are in place for Highway 75 to reopen to two-way traffic in November. While some areas of the project appear more complete, city leaders have held off on opening them to north-south traffic. Doing so could funnel semi and truck traffic into central Sioux Center without a clear exit route, creating logistical challenges for both drivers and crews.

As the city continues to make progress on Highway 75, officials extend their thanks to residents and travelers for their patience and flexibility. The improvements aim to enhance safety, accessibility, and long-term infrastructure for the community.
