The Humane Society of Northwest Iowa is once again collecting gently worn, used, and new shoes as part of its annual shoe drive fundraiser.
Skye Johnson, Vice President of the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa, explains how the program works:
In addition to raising funds locally, the collected shoes also support a broader global impact. The Humane Society partners with Funds2Orgs, which distributes the shoes to entrepreneurs in developing countries. Those individuals then resell the shoes through small businesses to support their families. In one case, an entrepreneur in Haiti earned enough to send her son to law school.
Donations of gently worn, used, or new shoes can be dropped off at several locations, including the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa, Midwest Companies in Spirit Lake, and Indian Motorcycle.
