Hull Man Arrested on Several Charges

A Hull man was arrested after leading Sioux County deputies on a vehicle pursuit Saturday evening.  According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a report of an attempted vehicle theft from a residence in Hull, where 44-year-old Isidro Encarnacion of Hull also threatened family members with a large knife.

When officers arrived, they observed Encarnacion driving the stolen vehicle northbound from the residence, police then began the pursuit which lasted roughly nine miles before Encarnacion lost control of the vehicle and struck a culvert.

The Sheriff’s Office says Encarnacion then advanced aggressively with the knife after getting out of the vehicle. Law enforcement used a taser and a Sheldon Police Department K-9 to take him into custody.

Encarnacion also smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted to drinking before and during the car pursuit.

Officers say Encarnacion was transported to Orange City Area Health with minor injuries. After receiving treatment, he was transported to the Sioux County Jail, where he was charged with Operating a motor vehicle While Under the Influence (3rd offense), First degree theft, Domestic Abuse, Child Endangerment, Interference with Official Acts (Dangerous Weapon), Criminal Mischief and Felony Eluding.

More than $10,000 in damage is reported to the vehicle and the culvert.
