The City of Hull is working to fill a vacancy on its City Council following the resignation of a council member earlier this month, with another seat expected to open later this year.
City Administrator Heidi Kramer says Faye De Kam stepped down after moving out of Hull. Her final meeting was on March 9th. Because council members are required to live within city limits, the move made her ineligible to continue serving.
The council is now seeking applicants to fill the remainder of De Kam’s term, which runs through the end of 2029. Interested residents must submit a letter of interest to the city office by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9th. The council plans to review applicants and make an appointment during its regular meeting on Monday, April 13th.
Kramer says there has already been some interest in the position, and she does not anticipate any issues filling the seat.
She also noted that the city will soon be facing another vacancy. Council member Kyle Te Slaa is expected to step down following the June 8th meeting, also due to moving outside city limits.
Kramer says De Kam will be missed, pointing to her approach during council discussions.
Kramer says anyone interested in serving but with questions about the role is encouraged to contact the city office to learn more.
