Hit and Run Crash Leads to Arrest of Hawarden Man

A Hawarden man was arrested after a report of a hit-and-run crash in Hawarden early Sunday morning.

Deputies with the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigating the crash at the intersection of 11th Street and Central Avenue in Hawarden determined 26-year-old Francisco Duenas, driving a Jeep Cherokee, hit a parked and unattended GMC Sierra then left the scene without reporting the crash.

Deputies located Duenas and suspected he was under the influence of alcohol.  He was arrested and brought to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.  He was cited for striking an unattended vehicle and driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license. The registered owner of the Jeep Cherokee, 18-year-old Diana Duarte of Hawarden, was cited for permitting an unauthorized person to drive the vehicle.

No injuries were reported in the crash, however both vehicles sustained about $10,000 in damage.
