Highway 75 Update

Utility work continues as the Highway 75 reconstruction project continues into late summer.  New water mains are being installed between 9th St. S and 7th St S. The new 8-inch water mains are replacing old 4-inch water main, increasing reliability and consistent service.  Once complete, pavement will be removed, and work will begin to install sewer and storm water infrastructure.

Several crews are working to complete Phase 1 from 20th St. S to 13th St. S.  A concrete crew has installed sidewalks along both sides of Highway 75 providing improved pedestrian access when the project is complete. Driveway access has been installed for businesses and homes in the phase 1 area as well. Another crew is preparing the soils along the sides and in the medians for seeding and landscaping. A third crew has been working on installing streetlights.

Underground work on Highway 75 from 13th St. S to 9th St S is nearing completion.  The mainline of Highway 75 has now been paved up to 12th St. S., and subgrade preparations are underway for the subgrade surface of the highway between 12th and 9th to prep it for paving in early fall.

Coming up, people will notice electrical, accent, and landscape work between 20th St. S and 13th St. S. including plantings, colored concrete, and street light installation, pavement removal and underground work between 9th St. S and 7th St. S.; and closure of the 9th St. S. intersection in late summer/early fall for underground work and paving.

The next monthly construction public update meeting will be held Wednesday, August 14, at 11 a.m. at the Sioux Center Public Library’s meeting room. City staff and engineers will share a project update, and members of the public will have an opportunity to ask questions.

These meetings are planned for the second Wednesday each month at 11 a.m. at the library throughout the construction season.
