Highway 75 Construction Resumes in Sioux Center for Final Phase

Construction on Highway 75 in Sioux Center is back underway, marking the beginning of the final phase of a multi-year redesign project that has reshaped a key corridor through the community.

Crews began work this week by setting up traffic control and shifting lanes, allowing initial infrastructure work to begin without fully closing the highway. The early work focuses on replacing underground utilities, including water mains, while maintaining traffic flow for now.

Sioux Center City Manager Scott Wynja says the early start is a positive step for the project’s timeline.

The project, now in its fourth year, includes a full reconstruction of about 2.5 miles of Highway 75 through Sioux Center. Improvements include expanded lanes in both directions, a center turn lane, medians, sidewalks, and updated infrastructure aimed at improving both safety and traffic flow. The expectation is that the workload will be overall lighter this year in comparison to past years of the project.

This year’s work is concentrated on the stretch from 5th Street North near Central Park to about 12th Street North, just south of the McDonald’s intersection. Crews will install new water, sewer, and storm sewer systems before removing existing pavement and rebuilding the roadway, along with adding sidewalks, driveways, and landscaping.

For now, traffic will continue to move through the construction zone, but that will change later this spring.

Wynja says a full closure of Highway 75 is expected around late May or early June, once underground work progresses to the point where larger reconstruction can begin.

Once closures begin, segments of Highway 75 between 5th and 12th Streets North will be shut down in phases through the summer and into the fall.
