High Fire Danger Today

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the Sioux County Radio listening area today until 6pm.  Officials at the NWS say warm temperatures today, combined with dry vegetation, low relative humidity, and westerly winds of 15 to 25 mph that could gust as high as 40 mph will create conditions ripe for field and grassfires this afternoon.  Any fires that do develop will spread rapidly; therefore, outdoor burning today is not recommended.

If conditions worsen this afternoon, the NWS could issue a Red Flag Warning, meaning we’ve reached a critical threshold for fires to develop.  By tomorrow, the risk for fires will be in the low to moderate risk categories with cooler temperatures and significantly decreased winds.
