On Friday the Hawarden Police Department received reports about a social media post claiming a juvenile male assaulted an elderly dog while walking it near the Hawarden swimming pool and is now investigating the incident.
Through the investigation, they have learned the dog was presented to West Sioux Veterinary Clinic Wednesday related to a dog bite incident a couple days prior. The dog was not treated or examined for injuries related to an assault.
On Friday, an officer with the Hawarden Police Department observed the dog at the clinic and was told by staff that the dog appeared to be healthy and unharmed. the officer did not see any injuries related to those shared in the social media post and he remains under observation at the West Sioux Veterinary Clinic.
