Habitat For Humanity Gives Keys to New Homeowners

“A world in which everyone has a decent place to live.” That’s been the Siouxland Habitat for Humanity’s vision since 1992 and Saturday afternoon they were able to hand over their 77th home to a family in need.

Nancy Martinez and her six children were living in her parents’ finished basement for over a year until Siouxland Habitat for Humanity announced they had been chosen as the recipient of the fifth “Habitat Home” in Sioux Center last year, and Saturday afternoon, Habitat for Humanity held a home dedication to welcome the Martinez family to their new home.

Thanks to an all-out effort, Habitat for Humanity and the Sioux County community were able to build the Martinez family home in under 6 months after breaking ground in May.

Sioux County Habitat for Humanity Director Kurt Franje says they bought the lot in early February this year and didn’t break ground until early May.  Franje says they had at least 400 volunteer hours from the community and a lot of contractors contributed their time to make this home ready to occupy.

Siouxland Habitat for Humanity has two more houses in the works in Sioux City and plans to build another home in Rock Valley next year.
