Gas Leak Forces Dordt Students to Evacuate New Dorms

Sioux Center — There were a few tense moments on Dordt University’s campus on Tuesday evening.

According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, firefighters were called to the new dorms on 4th Avenue for the report of a gas leak a few minutes before 6:30 pm.

The chief tells us they evacuated the four dorm buildings while they waited for city crews to make repairs. He says the gas department found some bad gaskets had caused the leak, which they were able to fix. He says 4th Avenue Northeast was also closed for a short time.

Van Holland says firefighters were on-scene for between a half hour and 45 minutes.
