Garage Destroyed in Friday Night Fire Near Boyden

A garage was destroyed in a fire late Friday night, November 28, northwest of Boyden.

Boyden Fire Chief Chris Starkenburg says crews were called just before 10 p.m. to 3821 310th Street, about one mile north and two miles west of Boyden. When firefighters arrived, the single-stall detached garage was fully engulfed in flames.

Starkenburg says crews used water and foam to knock down the fire. The cause appears to have been a heat lamp left on for some cats. No animals were found during the response, and firefighters believe the cats were able to escape safely.

The garage and its contents — including a lawnmower — were declared a total loss. Firefighters were on scene for roughly an hour and a half.
