Four-Vehicle Crash Temporarily Closes Highway 75 Near Maurice

Traffic was disrupted for several hours Thursday morning following a four-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 75 and Highway 10, also known as Million Dollar Corner, about a mile north of Maurice and five miles south of Sioux Center.

The Iowa State Patrol says the crash happened around 8:15 a.m. when a northbound semi driven by Dylan De Wit collided with a southbound pickup and livestock trailer driven by Brayden Utesch-Nemmers, who was turning left onto Highway 10. The impact pushed the semi into a third pickup and trailer driven by Kevin Weldon, which then struck a fourth vehicle driven by Diego Lopez-Maltos that was stopped at the intersection.

De Wit, Utesch-Nemmers, and Weldon each sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospitals in Sioux Center and Orange City. Lopez-Maltos was not injured.

The crash blocked both lanes of Highway 75 for nearly three hours. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office advised motorists at 8:20 a.m. to avoid the area, later reopening the intersection shortly before 11 a.m. Total vehicle damage is estimated at just under $200,000.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, Sioux Center Police Department, Orange City and Sioux Center EMS, Maurice and Sioux Center Fire Departments, Sioux County EMA, the Iowa DOT, and area towing services.
