The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a Thursday morning crash that sent a Sheldon woman to the hospital.
Deputies say the accident happened around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Kingbird Avenue, about four miles northwest of Hospers.
Nineteen-year-old Ofelia Chilel of Sheldon was driving a Toyota Camry northbound when she attempted to turn around in the middle of the road during foggy conditions. A Ford F-150 driven by 33-year-old Adam Nibbelink of Hospers, who was traveling behind her, struck the car.
Chilel was taken by Hospers Ambulance to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center with minor injuries. Damage was estimated at $10,000 to her car and $5,000 to Nibbelink’s pickup.
Authorities cited Chilel for driving without a valid license and for stopping on the roadway.
The Hospers Ambulance assisted at the scene.
