Five students and a driver were evaluated at the scene and released after a truck rear-ended a van operating as a school bus for Rock Valley Christian School Friday morning.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the crash occurred at 8:02 a.m. October 23 on Elmwood Avenue, one mile south of Rock Valley.
According to the sheriff’s office, 32-year-old Marcus DeJager of Rock Valley was driving a 2011 Ford Econoline van northbound. A 2002 Peterbilt truck driven by 69-year-old Randall VandeKamp of Rock Valley was traveling behind the van.
As DeJager slowed to turn into a driveway, VandeKamp rear-ended the Ford.
Rock Valley Ambulance personnel evaluated DeJager and five students at the scene and released them. VandeKamp reported no injuries.
Damage was estimated at $7,500 to the van and $1,500 to the truck.
VandeKamp was cited for following too closely.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Rock Valley Fire Department, Rock Valley Ambulance, Rock Valley Police Department, and Sioux County Emergency Management.
