Early on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, two fire departments responded to a call near Sioux Center.
Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland reported that around 2:25 a.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was dispatched to a house at 3112 430th Street, approximately a mile south of Sioux Center, due to a report of smoke filling the residence.
Upon arrival of firefighters, law enforcement had already ensured that all occupants and their pets were safely out of the home. Inside, firefighters encountered thick smoke.
The source of the smoke was traced to an overheated cast iron fireplace, which had ignited a nearby pile of firewood. Firefighters removed the fuel and doused it with water, along with the firewood.
Chief Van Holland noted the home sustained some smoke and minor water damage. No injuries were reported. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.
The Sioux Center Fire Department was assisted by the Ireton Fire Department.
