Fire Damages Hawarden Home

A house was damaged in an early morning fire on 306th Street – about five miles southwest of Hawarden Thursday.  Hawarden Fire Chief Duane Schiefen says the call came in about 6am.

Firefighters could see smoke as they drove to the scene.  It took about two hours for the Alcester, Ireton, and Hawarden Fire Departments to extinguish the blaze, and some pets were lost in the fire.  Schiefen says the house sustained major damage and the cause appears to be electrical.
