Funding for the City of Hawarden’s property acquisition program following the 2024 flood is closer to becoming a reality. Public works director Travis Waterman told the Hawarden City Council this week that representatives from the Iowa Department of Homeland Security have said that there is movement on the federal side.
Once that happens, Waterman said that they could begin the process of demolition.
Waterman is hopeful that they’ll be making good progress on those properties by this fall.
